Prof. Mona El Baradei, Egyptian Banking Institute

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Professor Mona El-Baradei, is a prominent Egyptian Economist. She is the Executive Director of the Egyptian Banking Institute, Central Bank of Egypt and has served in this position since December 2011.

 

She is also a professor of Economics and the Former Dean of the Faculty of Economics and Political Science, Cairo University (from 2005 through 2008) as the first woman to be appointed in the capacity of dean of the Faculty. She was also the Former Executive Director of the Egyptian National Competitiveness Council, ENCC (from 2008 through 2011).Professor El Baradei has authored and co-authored a vast number of publications and research papers in different fields such as Economic Development, Human Resources Development, Energy Economics and the Economics of Education.

 

Professor El Baradei has been a consultant for a number of organizations including: UNDP, UNICEF, UNESCO, the Population Council, the Social Fund for Development, the Ministry of Economic Development, the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Higher Education. She is also a board member in a number of private and public institutions.

 

Dr. Ola El Khawaga,Egyptian Banking Institute

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Dr. Ola is a professor of Economics at the Faculty of Economics and Political Science (FEPS). She is also the Scientific Coordinator of Euro-Mediterranean Programs at FEPS. Dr. Ola is the Director of the Research and Awareness Department at the Egyptian Banking Institute (EBI) since 2006; in this position she supervises the organization of EBI events including: Conferences, Seminars and workshops, in addition to issuing awareness publications and research studies.

 

Working in the field of Economics and Human Development, she was the Deputy Director of the Center of the Studies for Developing Countries. Dr. Ola is the author of research papers on Labor Markets and migration and she has a wide experience in diversified consulting activities in these areas. She also acts as consultant for different organizations: IDSC, Population Council, Council for motherhood and childhood and DAAD. Dr. Ola received her Master Degree on “Consumption Patterns in Egypt” and a PHD on “Food Security in Egypt”.

Dr. Nadia Makram Ebeid, Centre for Environment and Development for the Arab Region and Europe (CEDARE)

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Nadia Makram Ebeid is the Executive Director of the Centre for Environment and Development for the Arab Region and Europe (CEDARE), an international diplomatic position she assumed in January 2004. Prior to that, she was the first Special Peace Envoy of the Secretary General of the Arab League. Ebeid was formerly Egypt’s first Minister of the Environment to head the newly created Ministry in 1997, for a period of five years, and the first woman minister to hold this position in the Arab World. One of her most notable achievements was declaring the River Nile free from polluted industrial wastewater discharge.

 

Ebeid has a long-standing professional record with the United Nations in the field of international development cooperation. She also has academic pursuits since she was a visiting professor at George Washington University, USA.She is likewise the chairperson and board member of various prestigious institutions and the holder of more than fifty international and national awards.

Dr. Dalia Abdel Kader, Arab African International Bank

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Dr. Dalia Abdel Kader is an expert in Sustainability Studies, Corporate Social Responsibility and Branding. Currently, Director of Marketing & Communications at Arab African International Bank, she is also a Vice Chairman and Secretary General of “We Owe it to Egypt” foundation, one of the first operational foundations in the fields of health and education to be established by a financial institution. Substantiated with an inter-disciplinary exposure to finance, political science, economics and sustainability, Dr. Kader conceived the concept of “Humanizing Finance”; one that sees the role of the financial industry in context of environmental and social concerns to create a sustainable life. Dr. Kader lectured in several local and international conferences on branding financial institutions, Sustainability and CSR; she authored a series of articles on finance for development, national security and international relations.

 

Dr. Kader holds a B.A from the American University in Cairo (Major in Political Science & Minor in Economics), M.A. degree in Political Science from the American University in Cairo and PH.D in Political Science from Cairo University.

 

Mr. Francis Malige, European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD)

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Francis Malige is a director in charge of financial institutions at the EBRD. He is responsible for equity and debt relationships with banks in countries of the Mediterranean.

 

Before this, from 2004 to 2010, he held various executive positions at BNP Paribas. There he contributed to the institution's transformation into the Eurozone's leading deposit bank through, in particular, the large-scale acquisitions of BNL in Italy and Fortis in the Benelux, as well as targeted investments across fast-growing markets (including North African countries). His last role at BNP Paribas was head of M&A.

 

Between 1998 and 2004 Mr Malige worked for McKinsey and Company Inc based in Paris and New York where he specialised in corporate strategy and corporate finance.Over his career he has had many opportunities to work in the Middle East and North Africa: most recently in Morocco, Tunisia, Egypt and Jordan.

 

He writes on issues of competitiveness, globalization, and industrial specialization. He is a graduate from ESCP (Paris graduate school of management) and holds a DESCF (advanced degree in accounting and finance), and an alumnus of McKinsey’s internal executive MBA programme.

 

Ms. Saphira Surina Patel Development Bank of Southern Africa (DBSA)

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Saphira’s areas of expertise lie in sustainability reporting, development evaluation, environmental resource management and the provision of environmental, social and sustainability risk advisory services to the development finance sector. She has successfully completed the University of Witwatersrand- Business School’s Management Advancement Programme (MAP), and is a certified GRI Sustainability Reporter.

 

Saphira is currently managing the Operations Evaluation Unit at the Development Bank of Southern Africa and has worked in the environmental and sustainable development sector for over ten years. Saphira also has experience working on infrastructure development projects within the SADC region and has worked with both international and local banks, DFIs and developers on large and small scale projects.

 

Saphira’s recent work includes; managing the review and revision of the Development Bank of Southern Africa’s (DBSA) Environmental Appraisal Procedures, the development of an Environmental Impact Matrix for the DBSA, the coordination of the DBSAs Environmental Community of Practice, the compilation and editing of the SADC Environmental Legislation Handbook and project management of the DBSA-DEA Environmental Assessment streamlining programme.

 

Mr. Martin Dasek, International Finance Corporation (IFC)

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Mr. Martin Dasek is the Senior Climate Solutions Financing Specialist in the Financial Institutions Department of IFC, (International Finance Corporation, World Bank Group Member). Martin is responsible for climate investments implementation and advisory support to local financial institutions thorough Europe and Middle East and North Africa regions since 2008. He has been engaged in many investment projects with FIs in total volume more than US$1billion (as credit lines, risk sharing products and trade guarantees). Martin was IFC Country Manager for Commercializing Energy Efficiency Finance Program, a six-year guarantee and market transformation program implemented by IFC in Central & Eastern Europe between 2003 and 2008. CEEF program was focused on financing of renewable energy and energy efficiency projects in CEU region.

 

Martin Dasek has been fully involved in climate, sustainability, energy efficiency and renewable energy industries since early nineties. After graduation on the Czech Technical University and PhD. stay at the Midleessex Univ. in London he joined SEVEn, The Energy Efficiency Center in 1993. In SEVEn he had managed dozens of national and international projects. Mr. Dasek joined IFC in 2003.

Dr. Hani Sarie-Eldin is a prominent legal practitioner in Egypt and Middle East with an expertise of twenty-five years in corporate, banking, and capital market.

 

Sarie-Eldin is a professor of Commercial and Maritime Law Department at Cairo University and was a Visiting Professor of Development Law & Capital Markets, Queen Mary and Westfield College at University of London.

 

In addition to his private professional career, Dr. Sarie-Eldin had served in executive and non-executive public positions including the following: Chairman of Capital Market Authority, Board member of the central bank of Egypt, General Authority For Investment, and first official US-Egyptian Fund to promote investment in Egypt.

 

Dr. Sarie-El din holds a Ph.D in International Business Law from Queen Mary and Westfield College, university of London.

May Abulnaga is the Regulations Department Head under the Banking Supervision Sector of the CBE - since 2007 - in charge of issuing and amending prudential regulations, among which is bank governance - where she was appointed as the official instructor for the training programs in this regard. In early 2013, May took the additional responsibility of managing the banking sector reform department focusing - among other pillars - on financial inclusion.

 

May holds a Bachelor degree in Business Administration with "high honors" from the American University in Cairo (AUC), and minor in Economics. For more than 20 years May maintained a varied career in banking specializing in corporate credit and credit risk, restructuring of the state owned banks as part of the reform program conducted by the CBE for the Egyptian banking sector.

 

Mr. Christian Strenger, Deutsche Bank Group Entities

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Mr. Christian Strenger is currently the Deputy Chairman of the Private Sector Advisory Group at World Bank / IFC Global Corporate Governance Forum; Director of the 'Center for Corporate Governance' at HHL- Leipzig Graduate School of Management. He is also a Member at Government Commission ‘German Corporate Governance Code’ since its establishment in 2001. Moreover, he acts as a member of supervisory board in several institutions such as The Germany Funds, New York (Chairman), TUI AG, Hannover and DWS Investment GmbH, Frankfurt (since October 1999). His professional career started with a Bank training with Merck, Finck & Co., Munich (Private Bank) from 1962 – 1964; other professional acts by Christian Strenger include Merchant Banking and Asset Management at Deutsche Bank in Frankfurt, London and, New York. He served from 1991 to 1999 as CEO of DWS Investment GmbH (today: Deutsche Asset & Wealth Management) which is considered Germany’s largest mutual fund manager.

 

Mr. Mohamed Sherif, Barclays Bank

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Mohamed Sherif currently holds the position of Chief Financial Officer at Barclays Bank Egypt since September 2012, and Board member since January 2013. He joined Barclays Egypt as Operational Risk and Control Director in February 2009. During that time as a member of the executive management, he achieved a successful track record to ensure quality control, develop banking operations, audit, strengthen the effectiveness of the control environment and establish principles and committees of governance at a local and regional level.

 

Prior to joining Barclays Egypt, Sherif held several positions at Citibank, most recently as Vice President and Quality Assurance Unit Head.

 

Sherif began his career in 1998 as a Financial Auditor at KPMG Hazem Hassan. In 2002 he served as Regional Internal Auditor at Arab Bank PLC.

 

He holds a Bachelor of Commerce – English section – majoring accounting from Cairo University, and an MBA from the German University in Cairo.

 

Sherif is also a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) since 2004.

 

 

Ms. Careen Abb, Banking Commission Coordinator, UNEP Finance Initiative

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Careen Abb is the Coordinator UNEP FI’s global Banking Commission, initiated in January 2010, and is based in Geneva, Switzerland. She joined UNEP FI in Geneva in January 2005 where she initially worked for the Signatory Relations & Communications Office, before moving to Mexico City to take up the coordination of UNEP FI’s Latin American Task Force (LATF) in December 2005, followed by the North American Task Force in 2008. She took over the coordination of the Banking Commission in 2010, operating out of UNEP’s offices in Paris, France.The Banking Commission is made up of over 130 commercial and development banking institutions spanning all 5 continents The development of a Guide to Banking & Sustainability, as well as a far-reaching and innovative training programme, both aimed specifically at banking practitioners, has been at the heart of Careen’s work at UNEP FI. Careen has also been key in advising locally driven sustainable banking frameworks in various countries, and lead UNEP FI’s efforts towards the UN Conference on Sustainable Development (Rio+20) held in Rio de Janeiro in June 2012.Careen previously worked at the International Federation of the Red Cross (IFRC), on Monitoring & Evaluation, as well as in the promotion of the Sphere Project, an initiative promoting best practice standards for humanitarian relief operations.Careen holds a Master in International Relations from the University of Kent at Canterbury. She was previously awarded a Masters in Conference Interpretation and a Degree in Translation from the University of Geneva.

Dr. Hala H. ElSaid is the Dean of the Faculty of Economics and Political Science (FEPS) at Cairo University since October 2011 and a Professor of Economics at FEPS. She is also an Assistant to Cairo University President for Research and External Relations since September 2013. Dr.Hala served as an Executive Director of the Egyptian Banking Institute at the Central Bank of Egypt from 2003 till September 2011. Dr.ElSaid is a member of the board of directors of many financial and banking institutions.

 

She has a leading role in public service as she is an active member of Egyptian Association for Protecting Competition and Egypt@Work Advisory Committee- Nahdet El Mahrousa. Dr.ElSaid has been also a member of some NGOs as "Our Children Our Future" Foundation and MENA Consultative Group to Assist the Poor at World Bank.

 

She has authored several research papers and articles covering financial sector, international finance, financial markets, access to finance and economic reform.

 

Dr. El Said holds a B.A, MSc and PhD with honor in Economics from the Faculty of Economics & Political Science at Cairo University.

Mr. Mounir Abdel Wahab El Zahid commenced the banking career in 1977 with Chase National Bank Egypt. In 1980, joined Chase Manhattan Credit Training Programme. Occupied several posts in Corporate Banking and Branch Network Management, and promoted in CIB to General Manager in July 1995. Joined HSBC Bank Egypt (Egyptian British Bank at that time) as General Manager Corporate banking in 1996. In May 2005 became the Chairman of HSBC Securities (Egypt).

 

From April 2006 became Managing Director HSBC Bank Egypt. In March 2011 he became Managing Director & Deputy CEO for HSBC Bank – Egypt. As from September, 2011 was appointed Chairman & CEO, Banque du Caire. Also Chairman Supervisory Board Misr Bank Europe from June 2012.

 

Mr. Johannes Majewski, GIZ

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Johannes Majewski works as a Team leader of a regional program on Promoting the Microfinance Sector in the MENA Region implemented by GIZ (Deutsche Gesellschaft für internationale Zusammenarbeit GmbH). The initiative covers Egypt, Jordan and the Palestine Territories. Major areas of intervention include regulatory and policy issues but also support to Sanabel, the regional microfinance network as well as work in the area of Youth and Financial Literacy. Before moving to Egypt in 2011, Mr. Majewski worked as an internal advisor at the headquarters of GIZ on financial inclusion as well as with Frankfurt School of Finance and Management, one of the worldwide leading consultancy firms in microfinance, in different positions. Among other, he was heading a Microfinance Training Program in Chile on behalf of KfW. Mr. Majewski successfully completed the Postgraduate Training Program for Development Cooperation at the German Development Institute. He holds a master in Economics with focus on Development Economics. His publications include topics such as informal finance, financing rural water as well as policy and regulation. 

 

Mr. Hideki Matsunaga, Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) Egypt Office

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Hideki Matsunaga is the Chief Representative of Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) Egypt Office, supervising JICA operation in Egypt, Yemen and the Gulf Countries. He has served in numerous professional and management positions for JICA, the Japan Bank for International Cooperation, and the United Nations Development Program. For over ten years, Matsunaga worked in Palestine, Jordan, Syria, Iran and Iraq, where he supervised Iraqi reconstruction from the time of the military invasion until 2011. Before transferring to Egypt in 2012, Matsunaga served as team leader for the Fukushima and Iwate region of Japan under the umbrella of Japan Platform, a Japanese nongovernmental organization dedicated to providing humanitarian relief and recovery after the earthquake and tsunami of March 2011. Matsunaga holds M.A. from School of Advanced International Studies, Johns Hopkins University. 

 

Mr. Daniele Scauso, Child and Youth Finance International (CYFI)

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Mr. Daniele Scauso heads the position of Financial Authorities & Regional Platforms Manager at the Child and Youth Finance International (CYFI) Secretariat. Daniele joined CYFI as part of the Management Team since its inception in 2011 and contributed to the growth and development of the Movement, with a particular focus on managing the relationships with Financial Authorities, Regional Bodies and Bilateral/Multilateral Organizations.

 

Daniele coordinates Regional Platforms Department, oversees the organization and strategic agenda of CYFI Regional and International Events and Stakeholders meeting. He is co-author of different CYFI publications, represents CYFI in various international working groups and forums on financial inclusion.

 

Prior to join CYFI, Daniele covered the position of Country Manager in the Life Insurance and Private Banking department of a primary international bank in Luxembourg.

 

Daniele holds a BA in quantitative finance and economics and an Executive Master in Strategic Marketing & Sales. He was born in Rome, Italy.

Mohamed Ozalp is Managing Director & CEO of Blom Bank Egypt since April 2010. He is also the co-President of the French Chamber of commerce in Egypt. Mohamed Ozalp was Vice Chairman and a Board Member of Banque Misr from October 2002 till March 2010. Prior to joining Banque Misr, Mr. Ozalp spent 24 years at Misr International Bank (MIBank), gaining experience in various areas of the bank and reaching the post of Senior General Manager and member of the Executive Committee.

 

Mr. Ozalp has held many Board memberships and official positions throughout his career among which are: Member of the Board and Executive Vice Chairman of Banque Du Caire, Member of the Egypt-US President's Council, Member of the Board and Treasurer of the Egyptian Banks' Association, Member of the Board of Misr International Bank, Member of the Board and ExCo of U.B.A.E. Arab Italian Bank (Rome), Chairman of Board of Directors of the Egypt Fund, Executive Vice President of the American Chamber of Commerce (Egypt), Member of the Board of the Cairo and Alexandria Stock Exchange, Member of Board of the Egyptian Mortgage Refinance Company, and member of the Board of Banque Misr Liban.

 

Mr. Ozalp holds a Bachelor's degree in Economics and Business from Whittier College, USA and has attended various intensive training programs at the First National Bank of Chicago.

 

Mr. Mohamed Ashmawy, The United Bank

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Mohamed H. Ashmawy is the Chairman & Managing Director of the Board of Directors of The United Bank.

 

Mr. Ashmawy, received his B.A in Accounting from Ain Shams University in 1975 and successfully completed professional training programs in Commercial Arbitration, Audit and Credit-Chase.

 

This is in addition to his diversified wide experience in various fields mainly banking, agriculture, tourism, printing industries besides insurance, brokerage, and credit assessment, and held several senior executive positions’ as chairman or board member in different institutions: (Commercial International Bank and sister companies (CIBC/CIL), Contact Co. for Car Financing, Misr Insurance Holding Co., Agricultural Holding Company (BOD Member) 6th October University (BOD Member), Federal Egyptian Development Chamber of Commerce (BOD Member) and Ain Shams University.

 

Mr. Ashmawy acts as Vice Chairman to Misr El Kheir Foundation, a well-known NGO.

 

Moreover, he had a very significant role and impact on restructuring and reforming several institutions whereby recovered and turned to profitable organizations.

 

Mr. Mohamed Eletreby, Egyptian Gulf Bank

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Mr. Mohamed Mahmoud Eletreby CEO & managing director of Egyptian Gulf bank since 2013. Mr. Mohamed is a prominent banker with more than 30 years of experience in the banking field. He started his banking career in 1977 with Arab African International Bank, followed by Arab solidarity bank then Credit International D' Egypte bank.

 

In 1983 he joined MIBank (Misr International Bank) currently QNB, where he spent more than 22 years, during which he held several senior banking positions and acquired multi experience in different key areas of banking business.

 

In September 2005, he had joined Egyptian Arab Land Bank as Vice Chairman & Board Member. In 2009 he was appointed as an Executive Managing Director of Arab investment Bank. In 2011 Mr. Mohamed was appointed as a chairman of Egyptian Arab Land Bank.

 

Finally he joined Egyptian Gulf Bank in January 2013. Mr.

 

Mohamed Ismail, Export Development Bank of Egypt

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Mohamed Ismail Al Shareef has been appointed as the Chairman of Export Development Bank of Egypt in Oct., 2012.

 

With over 25 years of experience in the Banking Industry, Mohamed started his career in MIBANK & SG-Bank. He accessed several positions across banking sectors & activities that sharpened his experience and widened his perspectives.

 

In 2008, He joined Export Development Bank of Egypt stepping in positions starting from Head of Corporate Lending, Project Financing & Syndicated loans, then as a Risk Management Group Head; afterwards he was assigned as the Vice Chairman. Then he has been appointed as the Chairman in Oct. 2012.

 

Mohamed graduated from Faculty of Commerce & obtained several certificates & training courses locally & internationally in different banking sectors, economical & managerial as well.
